WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is a state of total relaxation and focused awareness. It is a powerful communication skill. The conscious, or "thinking" part of the mind becomes relaxed allowing communication with the subconscious, or "storage" part of the mind to become possible. However, in order for hypnosis to work you must want to make positive changes, agree to relax, and allow your mind to work for you.
HOW DOES HYPNOSIS WORK?
When you are relaxed you are more open to suggestion. The hypnotist uses relaxation techniques to induce a tranquil state. Then, positive suggestions are communicated to the subconscious. As your thoughts become more positive your behaviors naturally become more positive.
CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTIZED?
We are all hypnotized daily! When our concentration is focused to the exclusion of all other thought, we are in a hypnotic state. Some common examples are driving and suddenly arriving at your exit, wondering "Who drove the car?" or being completely engrossed in TV or a movie.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE HYPNOTIZED?
Hypnosis is one of the most pleasant experiences you will ever have. You become more relaxed than you ever imagined! Many say that the sensations are very much like daydreaming or the "twilight sleep" you experience as you are just about to fall asleep. Everyone's experience is individual and enjoyable. You are gradually relaxed by the hypnotist's voice. You maintain total control of yourself. You are completely conscious at all times, and hear everything that is being said. You are in control of accepting or rejecting any suggestion.
Remember: all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You control how deeply relaxed you allow yourself to become. You are always in control.
CAN YOU MAKE ME DO THINGS I DON'T WANT TO DO?
No. No one can be made to do or say anything that is against their beliefs or values. Stage hypnotists know how to "choose" their subjects. Furthermore, you will not reveal any information under hypnosis that you do not wish to reveal.
DOES HYPNOSIS REALLY WORK?
Yes! Hypnosis allows you to make changes by improving the thought patterns you have associated with a particular behavior.
According to an official statement by the American Medical Association (AMA), "Hypnosis is a valuable therapeutic adjunct, especially in the treatment of stress-related diseases..."
Although hypnosis is an accepted therapeutic treatment and can be an adjunct to ongoing psychological treatment, and can be of great benefit to many health challenges, at this time most insurance companies will not reimburse for hypnosis. The good news is that hypnotherapy is not a long term treatment and your investment will be minimal.
HOW CAN I USE HYPNOSIS TO CHANGE MY BEHAVIORS?
Changing the way you think is the key to successful behavior change. You can stop smoking, lose weight, change annoying habits, improve your self-esteem, learn to relax, improve athletic endurance, improve your health, and improve all aspects of your life. The possibilities are endless! Hypnosis empowers you to use your mind to create what you want in life. If you can imagine it, you can make it happen!
